Smooth Type II - Installation Guide
ABOUT THE WALLPAPER
Smooth Type II is a 100% PVC-free, 18-mil, commercial wallcovering with a textile scrim backing engineered for durability, dimensional stability, and high-strength performance. Vinyl wallcoverings are a permanent solution and is not designed for temporary wall applications.
Professional installation is recommended.
Recommended Supplies

Primer
- Roman Pro-977 Ultra Prime (or another high-quality primer suitable for your wall surface).
Paste
- Roman Pro-880 Ultra Clear Strippable or Roman Pro-774 Clay Strippable.
Confirm the Product
Verify pattern, texture, scale, color matching of panels, and the printed surface is free from defects before cutting. no returns on cut material. If you see any issues, please contact support@baxtermillarchive.com.
Allow the material to reach room temperature before handling and store in a clean, dry, temperature-controlled environment.
Other Instructions
Allow 24–48 hours for the primer to dry before continuing.
Walls must be completely free of mold, mildew, or residue prior to application. The building must be weather-tight, with HVAC systems operational before, during, and after installation. Acceptable environmental conditions: 65–85°F (18–29°C) and 40–60% relative humidity.
Do not crease the material before or during installation, as the creases may not disappear.
SURFACE PREPARATION

Smooth the Wall

Measure and inspect walls to ensure they are smooth and that you have the correct amount of product.

Correct any deficiencies before installing.

Remove protruding nails and fill holes, cracks, or indentations with acrylic spackling paste, then sand smooth.

Wash the Wall
-
Clean the surface to remove dust, dirt, mold, mildew, and stains.

Use a mixture of warm water and vinegar with a damp microfiber cloth or sponge.

Ensure the wall is completely dry before continuing.

Apply a Primer
-
A fresh coat of primer ensures a strong bond between the wall and wallpaper.
Planning the Installation

Measure walls a second time before starting.
-
Plan pattern placement and drop match to ensure symmetry or alignment of graphics.

Shut off power to wall switches/outlets and remove switch plates.
-
Use a level or plumb bob to draw a straight line as a guide for the first panel.
Adhesive Application
-
Use a high-quality adhesive suitable for your wall type and wallcovering (see recommendation above).
Pasting Process

Lay the panel on a clean table or pasting board.
-
Roll adhesive onto the upper half of the panel.
-
Gently fold pasted surface onto itself (avoid hard creases).
-
Rotate, paste the bottom half, and fold.
-
Once fully pasted, fold toward the center and allow to “book” for up to 20 minutes before hanging.
INSTALLATION

Align the first panel with your guideline.

Open the top half of the folded panel and apply it to wall using the smoothing brush.

Brush from center outward to remove air bubbles, applying firm but controlled pressure.

Repeat for the bottom half of the panel.

Use a 6 in. smoothing tool to seat the panel at ceiling and baseboard lines.

Trim excess at ceiling and baseboard with a sharp utility knife, cleaning the blade after each cut.
TECHNICAL NOTES
- It is Class A Certified (ASTM-E84), PVC-free, and compliant with REACH, RoHS, Lacey Act, and Prop 65.

Always maintain permanent lighting during installation for accurate inspection.
