Natural Grasscloth

About the Wallpaper

Natural Grasscloth Wallpaper adds organic texture and  warmth with 100% natural sisal fibers on a non-woven  backing. This Type I, PVC-free wallcovering features natural variations in tone, weave, and appearance, with  visible seams as part of its authentic character.

Best for lower-traffic, light-controlled spaces, it is  not recommended for high-moisture areas such as  bathrooms with showers or tubs. Natural fibers may  absorb odors and fade in prolonged direct sunlight.

    Surface Preparation

    1. Smooth the Wall

    • Measure and inspect walls to ensure they are smooth and that you have the correct amount of product.
    • Correct any deficiencies before installing.
    • Remove protruding nails and fill holes, cracks, or indentations with acrylic spackling paste, then sand smooth.

    2. Wash the Wall

    • Clean the surface to remove dust, dirt, mold, mildew, and stains.
    • Use a mixture of warm water and vinegar with a damp microfiber cloth or sponge.
    • Ensure the wall is completely dry before continuing.

    3. Apply a Primer

    • A fresh coat of primer ensures a strong bond between the wall and wallpaper.
    • Apply two coats total, allow each to dry overnight.

    Planning the Installation

    • Measure walls a second time before starting.
    • Plan pattern placement and drop match to ensure symmetry or alignment of graphics.
    • Shut off power to wall switches/outlets and remove switch plates.
    • Use a level or plumb bob to draw a straight line as a guide for the first panel.

    Adhesive Application

    • Use a high-quality adhesive suitable for your wall type and wallcovering (see recommendation above).

    Pasting Process

    Pasting the Paper

    1. Lay the panel on a clean table or pasting board.
    2. Roll adhesive onto the entire panel for good adheasion.
    3. Book the panel for 2-5 minutes. Longer soaking may cause tears.

    Pasting the Wall

    1. Dampen the paper with a sponge to relax the Grasscloth.
    2. Evenly spread adhesive on the wall per the installers perferred method.

    Installation

    1. Use a smoothing brush to install, gently working out air pockets and bubbles.
    2. Align and hang panels to match the design (about 1”).
    3. If color variation is a concern, stop installation and contact Baxter Mill.
    4. For double cutting, apply a protective layer (hand masker or 2” painter’s tape) to the bottom panel before overlapping. Cut through both layers, remove the tape, and smooth the top panel from the center outward.

    Technical Notes

    • Hard-edged smoothers and seam rollers may be used with caution, as they can crush natural fibers.
    • Keep the surface clean—avoid getting adhesive on the face, as it is very difficult to remove.
    • Do not place seams directly on outside corners; instead, wrap the panel around the corner using proper tools.
    • Avoid excessive wiping or overworking the material during installation.
    • Always maintain permanent lighting during installation for accurate inspection.
